Magnitude 7.5 Earthquake Strikes Japan: Tsunami Advisories Issued

An Air New Zealand flight was struck by lightning as systemic flight chaos continues across Auckland and Sydney. Over 4,000 disruptions recorded this April.

A major magnitude 7.5 earthquake struck off the Sanriku region of northeastern Japan at approximately 4:50 PM local time on Monday. Small tsunami waves, measuring up to 80cm, were recorded at Kuji port in Iwate prefecture.

While major tsunami warnings for 3-metre waves have since been lifted, Hokkaido, Aomori, and Miyagi remain under advisory for 1-metre waves. Bullet train services were suspended, and power outages have been reported in over 100 homes.
